Online Flying |
Unity pilots have two ways they can conduct their online flying - VATSIM or FSHost.
The main difference between the two mediums is VATSIM provides real time ATC and requires you follow certain procedures
where FSHost is a multiplayer server that provides the freedom to carry out your flight operations as you wish.
FSHost details can only be viewed in the Online Flying section of the forum here.

VATSIM |

Online flying at Unity Virtual can be conducted on the VATSIM network. |
What is VATSIM? |
VATSIM, or Virtual Air Traffic Simulation Network, is a non-profit organization operating a dedicated, worldwide, Internet-based flight-simulation network.
Users can connect to the network to either fly online as a pilot using flight simulation software, or direct traffic as an air traffic controller (ATC)
and participate in what has been described as a close approximation of real-life aviation procedures.
The organization has achieved notoriety
for its high level of participation and realism, that is seen it in use as part of Federal Aviation Administration funded research projects. This notoriety
resulted in the organization being featured on the front page of the Wall Street Journal in 2006. It is considered the largest online flight simulation
network in the world with over 110,000 registered members.

How do I get started on VATSIM? |
VATSIM has produced the Pilot Resource Center which contains all the information you need
to fly online with VATSIM.
You will also find answers to many questions on the VATSIM Forums. |
What is Unity's callsign on VATSIM? |
Members flying on VATSIM should use their Unity Membership number preceded with the letters UV when filing flight plans. When communicating with ATC
you use the callsign "Unity".
For example, if your member number was 15:
Your flight number in your flight plan would be:
UV15
Requesting clearance to depart would be:
"Tower, Unity 15 requests clearance to Washington as filed" |
